Istanbul's Haliç Shipyard serviced 45 vessels over the past year, covering dry-dock, deck and engine works. Vessels included 10 from İBB Şehir Hatları and affiliates (24 of which were ferries), 4 from BOTAŞ, 3 from KEGM (Coast Safety General Directorate), 2 private vessels and one each from the Justice Ministry and GESTAŞ.
Sinem Dedetaş, General Manager of İBB Şehir Hatları AŞ, said the goal is to expand production capacity and managerial efficiency at the 565-year-old yard. All three docks are continuously full, and four additional contracted vessels will enter maintenance before year-end. The number of out-of-service ferries dropped from 3 to 1.7 per day.
Sinan Erdinç, Director of Haliç Shipyard, noted that dormant know-how at the yard is being reactivated. Several recently maintained vessels — including Lapseki, Tuzla and Anadolu Feneri — were originally built at the yard, returning home for service.
Maintained vessels include BOTAŞ's Kırıkkale, Marmara Ereğlisi, Namık Kemal Aydın and Yapracık; KEGM's Nazım Tur, Kurtarma 3 and Kurtarma 4 tugs; the Justice Ministry's Tuzla; TURYAP's Anadolu Feneri; and Dentur Avrasya's Turgut Yüksel. Most recently, GESTAŞ's Lapseki ro-ro ferry from Çanakkale entered for major maintenance. Three more GESTAŞ vessels and one from İzdeniz are scheduled before year-end.
