Ukrposhta Tests Rail Service for International Mail
Ukrposhta has announced that it is testing rail service to deliver international mail imported into Ukraine. This solution, according to the company, marks the first adoption of the approach since 2002 and comes as a decision to circumvent numerous blocked road border crossings.
\nUkrposhta is collaborating with Omniva (Estonia's national postal service), Ukrainian Railways, and Slovakian company Interport. Three freight cars containing approximately 80,000 parcels from global markets have been delivered to Ukraine. Ukrposhta stated, "Compared with road transport, packages cross the border in one day when delivered by rail."
\nFinding alternative transport solutions is now a necessity to avoid blockages that began in early November at numerous road border crossings between Ukraine and Poland. In early December, Ukrainian Railways launched a new service for semi-trailers suitable for the Izov-Hrubeshiv border crossing between Sknyliv and Slawkow (Poland).
