Microsoft and Arvato are collaborating on the "Moonshot" project, an initiative aimed at making warehouse management processes autonomous. The self-managing warehouse of the future represents a research-phase undertaking that integrates artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and cloud computing technologies to drive continuous improvements in warehouse operations. The project will be featured at the Gartner Supply Chain Symposium/Xpo 2024, scheduled for June in Barcelona.
\nPaul Brolly, Vice President of Global Business Development at Arvato, noted that the project is built on automating and digitizing warehouse processes to enhance efficiency. Specifically, AI will provide an initial warehouse layout based on customer requirements for new orders, which Arvato will then refine further using its own expertise. According to Brolly, this approach delivers significant savings in time and effort.
\nMicrosoft will contribute its expertise in data platforms, computing capacity, Gen AI forecasting, computer vision, augmented reality, speech recognition, and text analytics cognitive services. Practical applications expected from the project include optimizing picking routes using AI and analyzing carrier responses under AI control to intervene appropriately in shipping complaints. These applications will reduce manual complaint processing to three to four percent levels, enabling more efficient resource utilization.
