The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), the Port of Los Angeles, and the Port of Long Beach, with support from C40 Cities, have renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Green and Digital Shipping Corridor (GDSC) for a further three years. First established in 2023, the renewed agreement reinforces the partners' focus on decarbonisation and digitalisation across the trans-Pacific route, one of the world's most heavily trafficked container corridors. It also aims to support broader supply chain resilience and energy security objectives.

Since inception, the corridor has progressed from planning to early implementation. A baseline study was completed in 2024, alongside the onboarding of industry stakeholders to explore pilot opportunities. Dedicated workstreams have since been established covering alternative fuels, digitalisation and energy efficiency, with the goal of enabling more diversified and resilient energy pathways for the Asia-Pacific region.

The trans-Pacific corridor stands out as one of the highest-emission shipping lanes carrying a significant share of global container trade. The three-port partnership aims to deliver concrete pilot applications across alternative fuel supply, ship-port digital interface, and energy efficiency, providing a roadmap aligned with the IMO's 2050 net-zero emissions target. Port authorities are deepening discussions with shipowners and fuel suppliers, particularly on scaling methanol, ammonia and biofuels.
