An Indian container terminal operator has placed an order for two Konecranes Rail-Mounted Gantry (RMG) cranes for its new terminal in India. This follows its earlier investment in 30 Konecranes Rubber-Tyred Gantry (RTG) cranes for the same location. The RMG order was booked in Q4 2025, with the cranes scheduled to be operational by the end of Q2 2027.

The container terminal is a greenfield terminal with rail handling as part of yard operations. Its Q3 2025 investment in 30 Konecranes RTGs will lay the operating foundation for the two RMGs, which will be used to load and unload trains moving between the terminal's coastal location and inland regions. Each crane will be equipped with a twin-lift spreader and a rotating trolley, enabling precise container alignment during rail operations.

Konecranes' Active Load Control (ALC) technology will eliminate container sway, further improving placement accuracy. Aligned with the Indian government's port-rail integration objectives under the Sagarmala and PM Gati Shakti programmes, the investment increases the efficiency of container movements from the coast to inland regions. Automated handling improves both turnaround time and operational safety.
