Toyota Reaches Agreement with Cirba Solutions to Recycle 25,000 EV Batteries Annually
Toyota Motor North America announced it will partner with battery materials services and recycling company Cirba Solutions to expand its battery recycling network. The partnership will focus on battery collection efforts for hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric vehicles.
The initiative will focus on collecting, transporting, disassembling, and processing end-of-life lithium-ion electric vehicle batteries across the Midwest and Eastern United States, with operations taking place at Cirba's Lancaster facility in Ohio. Toyota noted that the facility has a 95 percent recovery rate.
Christopher Yang, Vice President of Business Development at Toyota Motor North America, said, "Cirba Solutions' extensive and well-established transportation and recycling network enables Toyota to have nationwide battery collection and recycling operations to reduce our costs and operational carbon footprint."
Toyota stated that the agreement with Cirba Solutions will reduce overall logistics and transportation costs by at least 70 percent, based on 2022 data.
Toyota currently collects approximately 25,000 used vehicle batteries annually from its dealer network and expects this number to increase as the company sells more electric vehicles.
