Wärtsilä Provides Meghna Fresh LPG Carrier with Cargo Handling System
Wärtsilä Gas Solutions has announced that it will supply a cargo handling system for a new fully pressurized LPG carrier for Meghna Fresh, a subsidiary of Bangladeshi Meghna Group. Meghna Group, one of the country's largest industrial conglomerates, will operate the new vessel alongside its shipyard and energy operations.
\nUnder an agreement signed in October 2024, Wärtsilä's cargo handling system will be delivered across three main phases: engineering, materials and supervision, commissioning, and gas trials. The delivered components will include deck equipment, LPG piping, instrumentation, interface materials connecting the cargo tanks to the hull, and the cargo control system. Additionally, Wärtsilä will provide on-site support at the shipyard during the vessel's development.
\nWärtsilä Gas Solutions had previously completed four projects with Meghna Group of Industries. Company official Knut-Erik Heggem stated that this latest order affirms Wärtsilä's continued support, the quality of its product designs, and the functionality of the systems it provides. Heggem said, "Bangladesh is a rapidly developing country, and we are honored to contribute to this growth through our solutions."
\nWhen delivered, the vessel is expected to operate on both inland waterways and open seas. Accordingly, the design has been carefully adapted for both uses. The vessel is planned to enter service in 2026.
\nWärtsilä's project further underscores the company's strong presence in the energy sector and its impact on the Bangladesh market. Meghna Fresh LPG's new carrier will deliver high efficiency and reliability thanks to Wärtsilä's advanced technology solutions. Furthermore, the engineering and technical support provided by Wärtsilä will play a critical role in the vessel's construction and commissioning processes.
\nThis collaboration is regarded as an indicator of the strong relationship between Wärtsilä and Meghna Group. Such projects between the two companies enhance their competitive position in the global market while contributing to the development of innovative solutions in the energy and logistics sectors.
\nThe cargo handling system supplied by Wärtsilä for Meghna Fresh is seen as a significant step in LNG and LPG transportation. Equipped with advanced control systems and high-quality materials, the vessel will have the capacity to effectively respond to future energy transport needs. Wärtsilä's ongoing support and expertise aim to ensure the vessel's long-term operational success.
