Russia Resumes Wheat Exports to Indonesia

Russia resumed its first wheat shipment to Indonesia in October following a brief export suspension.

Approximately 52,000 tons of wheat were loaded from Novorossiysk Port in the Black Sea and sent to Indonesia.

This development became possible following Indonesia's Quarantine Agency, under the Ministry of Agriculture, decision to extend accreditation for five grain testing laboratories in Russia.

Russian Laboratories Regain Approval

Indonesia re-recognized the laboratories in Russia as "competent and reliable control institutions."

These laboratories will be responsible for quality control of grain exported to Indonesia.

This accreditation extension guarantees the sustainability of Russian grain exports and secure market access to Indonesia.

Indonesia: One of Southeast Asia's Largest Grain Importers

Indonesia imports annually on average:

  • 11 million tons of wheat,

  • 2.7 million tons of soybeans,

  • 1.2 million tons of corn.

These figures position the country as Southeast Asia's largest agricultural product importer.

During 2022–2025, Russia exported over 2.6 million tons of grain to Indonesia.
The new accreditation decision opens the way for this volume to increase further in the coming years.

Strategic Importance: The Southeast Asian Market

Indonesia represents a strategic market for Russia in agricultural exports.
Through this accreditation extension, Russian agricultural producers will be able to:

  • Directly meet quality assurance requirements,

  • Accelerate export approval processes,

  • Gain market access in new grain and feed product categories.

According to experts, this development is viewed as part of Russia's export strategy focused on Asia.

Conclusion: A New Balance in Exports

Russia's resumption of wheat exports to Indonesia is viewed as a signal of normalization in agricultural trade relations.

The accreditation decision also strengthens cooperation between the two countries in agriculture and food security.

This step will deepen Russia's presence in the Asian market, while providing Indonesia with stable grain supply.
