Robots Reduce Employee Turnover in Retail Sector

According to a survey conducted by Simbe, the use of inventory management technology in retail stores is extending employees' tenure in a sector characterized by high staff turnover rates. Tally, a robot developed by the San Francisco-based company, moves through store aisles scanning products using computer vision technology, identifying exact product locations, stock levels, and pricing and promotion information. This data streamlines inventory management and store operations.

According to the company's inaugural "Store Team Technology Sentiment Report," using robots for inventory counting helps employees remain in their roles by automating monotonous tasks. Tally enables employees to gain up to 50 hours per week, and three out of four store managers report that these employees subsequently provide better support to customers.

Survey results show that employees report greater job satisfaction since the implementation of Tally technology. Job satisfaction is cited as an important factor in employee retention. Additionally, two-thirds of store managers state that Tally has created better processes and halved order completion times, particularly by offering ways to simplify product location for online orders.

Finally, 85 percent of store managers using Tally report that the robot boosts sales and encourages customer loyalty, as employees have more time to assist customers.
