PayCargo and Gnosis Freight Develop Container Payment Portal for Hapag-Lloyd
PayCargo and Gnosis Freight Develop Container Payment Portal for Hapag-Lloyd
PayCargo and Gnosis Freight are partnering with Hapag-Lloyd, one of the world's leading container shipping companies, to launch the new Container Payment Portal (CPP). This innovative solution delivers real-time container status updates to customers, streamlines invoicing and payment processes, and enables faster container release. As a result, cargo operation efficiency is improved and container dwell times are reduced.
The Container Payment Portal serves as the primary interface for Hapag-Lloyd customers to manage compliance with the Ocean Shipping Reform Act of 2022 (OSRA) and to facilitate payment of import line demurrage fees for shipments to the United States. Powered by PayCargo's industry-leading payment network and Gnosis Freight's Container Lifecycle Management® Platform, the portal offers the following features:
Enhanced shipment visibility with real-time container status updates
Automated processes with real-time OSRA-compliant invoice generation
Faster container release through seamless electronic payments and fee hold removal
Efficient issue management with integrated dispute resolution tools
Enhanced tracking and planning with user-friendly container tracking list interface
By combining advanced payment processing with comprehensive container tracking, the portal represents a significant milestone in digitalization for the shipping industry. The CPP investment underscores Hapag-Lloyd's commitment to customer-centric digital solutions and improves cargo flow at U.S. ports.
Jason Drouyor, Director of Regulatory Affairs at Hapag-Lloyd, noted that revisions to demurrage and detention rules made by the U.S. Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) in May 2024 introduced new requirements for invoicing, timelines, and dispute processes for unreasonable charges. The Container Payment Portal has been designed to simplify compliance with these regulations.
The CPP will be rolled out progressively throughout 2025 across all major U.S. ports, including Houston, Virginia, Charleston, Savannah, Wilmington, New York/New Jersey, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Miami, Mobile, New Orleans, Tampa, Jacksonville, Port Everglades, Seattle, Tacoma, Oakland, Long Beach, and Los Angeles.
Eduardo Del Riego, President and CEO of PayCargo, expressed excitement about partnering with Gnosis Freight to support Hapag-Lloyd. He emphasized that their aim is to simplify payment and data flow processes by delivering a seamless experience for all users. With this portal, Hapag-Lloyd customers will benefit from faster and more efficient cargo management and gain added value to their operations.
Austin McCombs, CEO and co-founder of Gnosis Freight, noted that combining PayCargo's payment solution with Gnosis Freight's advanced Container Lifecycle Management® Platform represents a critical step in modernizing and streamlining import processes in the container shipping industry. He expressed enthusiasm about being part of this collaboration.
