Maersk opened its new flagship storage and logistics center of 113,000 m² in Shanghai Lin-gang, consolidating 147,000 m² of storage capacity, omnichannel fulfilment services, AEO certification, and an integrated ocean-air-land network under one roof.

A.P. Moller–Maersk has formally opened its $140 million flagship logistics center in Shanghai's Lin-gang district, marking one of the company's largest warehouse investments on a global scale. The facility, built on a 113,000 square-meter site, offers a total of 147,000 square meters of storage capacity and aims to make trade flows between China and the Asia-Pacific region faster, more flexible, and more resilient.

Maersk CEO Vincent Clerc highlighted at the opening that China is both the world's largest exporter and one of the most important consumer markets:

"This center strengthens our omnichannel fulfilment capabilities and further connects China to international markets."

The opening ceremony was attended by local government representatives, Maersk executives, and key customers. This participation demonstrates the center's strategic importance for regional supply chains.

Shanghai's role in the global supply chain strengthens further

The Lin-gang region is a rapidly growing center in Shanghai's trade and manufacturing ecosystem. The center's proximity to Yangshan Deep Water Port enables Maersk's ocean, air, and land services to work in an integrated manner, delivering:

  • faster deliveries,

  • lower costs,

  • higher operational visibility
    .

This integration exemplifies Maersk's "one network – one solution" strategy.

Four core capabilities: export, import, global hub, and e-commerce

The center brings together four fundamental services in its omnichannel fulfilment architecture:

  1. Export distribution

  2. Import distribution

  3. Regional and global hub operations

  4. Cross-border e-commerce logistics

Additionally:

  • Temperature-controlled storage,

  • Specialized packaging and value-added services,

  • Customized B2B and B2C models
are also offered as differentiated functions.

Fast customs clearance with AEO certification

Since security and speed are critical for high-volume import-export operations, Maersk leverages AEO (Authorised Economic Operator) certification at the center to deliver:

  • expedited customs clearance,

  • lower inspection rates,

  • unified management of bonded + non-bonded operations under one roof
    .

This represents a significant advantage for reducing operational costs, particularly for brands engaged in cross-border e-commerce.

A new era of unified inventory management for brands

Maersk Greater China General Manager Silvia Ding noted that the center directly responds to companies' growing omni-channel needs:

"Brands are demanding unified inventory management across exports, imports, and transit shipments. This center enables our customers to meet their B2B and B2C requirements with high efficiency."

According to Ding, the center will become a "multi-layered fulfilment node" that will alleviate the burden on both regional and global distribution centers.
