Maersk Opens Innovative Cross Dock Facility in Rotterdam
Maersk has announced the opening of a new cross dock facility at its Maasvlakte II terminal in Rotterdam. The facility will significantly increase cargo flows, particularly to the hinterland regions of the Benelux, Germany, and France. Containers discharged from arriving vessels can have their contents transferred to trucks within hours for delivery to final destinations. Spanning a total of 23,000 square meters, the warehouse features 120 loading ramps and temporary storage areas. Operating at full capacity, the facility will create more than 200 new job opportunities.
\nAdditionally, a large refrigerated warehouse for temperature-sensitive cargo—such as fresh vegetables, pharmaceuticals, and other frozen products—is being constructed at Maasvlakte II. The facility will cover 40,000 square meters and is expected to become operational by the end of 2024.
\nMaersk also plans to achieve zero-emission logistics via land, sea, and air by 2040. The new cross dock facility has been designed to BREEAM Excellent environmental standards and will utilize waste heat from the adjacent refrigerated warehouse to deliver 200,000 kilowatt-hours of energy savings annually.
