Full Electric Vessel Operations Begin on Inland Waterways

The use of electric motors in vessels is becoming a reality as the maritime sector moves to achieve zero-emission targets while simultaneously improving operational efficiency.


The Port of Rotterdam Authority has taken action toward this goal, commissioning four 90-metre vessels to handle its inland logistics on interior waterways.


For charging, the port plans to use containerized ZESPack battery units. These 1MVA power packs are designed to reach a full charge in approximately three hours.
