Gantry Crane Collapses at Keelung Port: Investigation Launched

A container gantry crane collapsed at Keelung Port during the delivery of new cranes for China Container Terminal Corporation. According to Taiwan News, the incident occurred on October 14 at around 2:00 p.m. The barge carrier Yuzhou Qi Hang, while transporting a newly purchased crane, collided with an existing shore-based crane at Pier 20. Vice President of Keelung Port Song I-ching explained that the barge was transporting a new gantry crane to replace an older one, and that the cause of the collision remained unclear.

It was reported that compensation negotiations would take place between China Container Terminal Corporation and the shipping company involved. The cost of the new gantry crane is estimated at approximately NT$300 million (US$9.3 million).
