Global Schedule Reliability Declined in September 2024

Global schedule reliability fell to 51.4% in September, declining 1.2 percentage points on a monthly basis (MoM). Sea-Intelligence released the 158th edition of its Global Liner Performance (GLP) report, which covers schedule reliability data through September 2024. The comprehensive report includes analysis across 34 trade lanes and more than 60 carriers.

In 2024, schedule reliability fluctuated between 50% and 55%, showing a slight downward trend since its peak in May. This minimal volatility provides shippers with a reasonable expectation of what to anticipate on a monthly basis. The average delay for late vessel arrivals increased by 0.21 days month-on-month to 5.67 days. This represents the third-highest monthly figure on record, surpassed only by the elevated levels seen during the 2021-2022 pandemic period.

According to Sea-Intelligence data, Maersk led the top 13 most reliable carriers in September 2024 with a schedule reliability of 55.5%. CMA CGM ranked second at 50.9% and was one of only two carriers to maintain schedule reliability above 50%. The remaining 11 carriers performed in the 40% to 50% range. Wan Hai recorded the lowest schedule reliability ratio at 40.4%.

In September 2024, only four of the top 13 carriers showed month-on-month improvement in schedule reliability. PIL posted a gain of 4.5 percentage points, while HMM experienced the largest decline of 7.8 percentage points. On a year-on-year basis, none of the top 13 carriers saw improvements in schedule reliability, with MSC and Wan Hai each recording the largest declines of 21.5 percentage points.
