DP World Opens New Supply Chain Routes for Turkish Automotive Industry

DP World has established new routes designed to alleviate raw material shortages faced by Turkish importers, particularly in the automotive sector. Turkey has emerged as a production hub in recent years, especially in automotive manufacturing, and has become heavily dependent on essential raw materials such as steel and chemicals sourced from China. However, disruptions in the Red Sea have caused significant delays in Turkish imports and exports.

To overcome the challenges posed by Red Sea disruptions, DP World noted that transit times have increased from 25 days to 60 days by using a new route via South Africa. This situation has adversely affected the availability and predictability of critical supplies for the automotive industry. In collaboration with a long-standing partner, DP World has identified a previously underutilized Chinese railway service to find a solution. This route begins in China, passes through Central Asia to the city of Baku in Azerbaijan, and from there goods are imported into Turkey.

With the completion of maintenance work in 2025, DP World plans to introduce a new route that will make the service even more efficient. This new route will pass through Georgia and will further reduce travel costs, making it a more economical and environmentally friendly option for users.

Kris Adams, CEO of DP World Yarimca, noted that this new land route offers a middle ground in terms of speed and price and was designed to assist customers during global disruptions. While air transport offers speed, it faces challenges such as high costs and insufficient capacity. The new route utilizes railway and truck services to provide a seamless and efficient transport process from source to destination.

Rashid Abdulla, DP World Europe CEO and MD, stated that the new route demonstrates the company's commitment to facilitating trade in Europe and its ability to develop rapid solutions to urgent challenges for customers. Abdulla emphasized the company's determination to continue supporting global supply chains and maintaining trade flows.
