DHL Ushers in New Era in Reverse Logistics with Inmar Integration
DHL Supply Chain is launching a multi-customer national reverse logistics network across North America, making returns processes more efficient and sustainable. This move represents the logistics giant's most comprehensive restructuring in the reverse logistics space following its acquisition of Inmar Supply Chain Solutions.
Strengthened New Structure with Inmar Acquisition
DHL Supply Chain acquired Inmar Supply Chain Solutions, a division of Inmar Intelligence, in January 2025. This acquisition brought the company 14 returns centers and approximately 800 employees. As a result, DHL elevated itself to the position of largest reverse logistics provider in North America.
The newly announced "DHL ReTurn Network" is built on the foundation of this acquisition. The company expanded its operations centered in Westerville, Ohio, combining Inmar's process expertise with DHL's operational excellence and advanced technological infrastructure.
Kraig Foreman, President of E-Commerce at DHL Supply Chain North America, stated: "The launch of DHL ReTurn Network marks a major milestone for DHL. After integrating Inmar into our operations, we systematically integrated our operations and aimed to reduce complexity in returns management."
Next-Generation Reverse Logistics Infrastructure
DHL ReTurn Network is designed to manage returns processes for multiple businesses, not just a single customer. The network can process various product types under one roof through 11 dedicated facilities.
These facilities work in integration with returns initiators, drop-off hosts, and direct mail returns. This enables businesses to establish a complete reverse logistics operation without additional infrastructure investment.
Thomas Borders, Vice President of Reverse Logistics at DHL Supply Chain North America, summarizes the system's advantages as follows:
"Our national-scale shared facility network reduces storage, labor, and transportation costs. We also optimize the processing and remarketing of returned products, providing customers with flexibility and operational visibility."
Remarketing Power with Arrive Recommerce Technology
Along with the announcement of the new network, DHL disclosed that it has acquired technology rights from brand-focused recommerce provider Arrive Recommerce. This move expands DHL's remarketing solutions, enabling customers to reintegrate returned products into the value chain.
In doing so, DHL provides customers not only with returns management but also resale and sustainable value recovery services. This approach helps brands develop a logistics infrastructure aligned with circular economy goals.
Global Approach with Europe Innovation Center
DHL also opened its new Europe Innovation Center in Troisdorf, Germany this week. The 58,000 square-meter new facility, located close to headquarters in Bonn, takes a central place in the company's innovation strategy.
The center is designed to test real-world applications of artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, Internet of Things (IoT), and sustainability-focused technologies. DHL noted that the center will serve as a joint innovation development platform with customers, startups, academic institutions, and industry partners.
Conclusion: Integrated Transformation in Reverse Logistics
DHL's Inmar integration and ReTurn Network launch transform returns processes from being a "side operation" to a strategic value-creation area in supply chain management.
This move responds to rising returns volumes in e-commerce and retail sectors while striking a strong balance between sustainability, cost optimization, and technological integration. DHL is thus positioning itself not merely as a logistics provider but as a leader in circular supply chain solutions.
