The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) has issued a warning after reports emerged that a vessel at anchor northeast of Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, was boarded by unauthorized personnel and is now being taken toward Iranian territorial waters. The incident occurred amid ongoing instability around the Strait of Hormuz.

According to UKMTO Warning 057/26, issued on May 14, the incident took place approximately 38 nautical miles northeast of Fujairah. UKMTO stated that the vessel's Chief Security Officer (CSO) reported that the vessel was seized by unauthorized personnel while at anchor and is now heading toward Iranian waters. No immediate details were available regarding the vessel's identity, flag, ownership, cargo, or crew status.

The reported seizure comes as maritime security conditions across the Arabian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz remain highly unstable. UKMTO warned that commercial traffic through the region has been "significantly reduced" following multiple security incidents over the past 48 hours. In a separate advisory, UKMTO Warning 058/26 reported an attack on an Indian-flagged livestock carrier near Limah, Oman. The vessel reportedly suffered an explosion before sinking, with all 14 crew members rescued by Omani authorities.

UKMTO also warned that mines in and near the Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS) continue to pose a threat to shipping in the region, while sporadic GNSS interference remains an ongoing navigational hazard. The latest incidents underscore the continued deterioration of maritime security around the Strait of Hormuz, where commercial shipping traffic remains heavily disrupted despite ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at stabilizing the region.

UKMTO advised vessels operating in the area to report any suspicious activity immediately. U.S. President Donald Trump discussed the Iran conflict with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Thursday. Meanwhile, the number of supertankers hauling unsanctioned oil through the Strait of Hormuz has shown signs of rising in recent days, though peace talks remain stalled and new attacks on vessels continue to occur near the strategic waterway.
