The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and LaGuardia Gateway Partners (LGP) have launched a project to install electric ground support equipment charging infrastructure across the airside and baggage areas of Terminal B at LaGuardia Airport. LGP will collaborate with Conrac Solutions to design, construct, maintain, and provide interim financing for the infrastructure. The project is expected to be completed in 2027.

The initiative will install 164 new electric ground support equipment charging ports across both terminal concourses and the baggage hall. This new infrastructure will more than double the existing charging capacity at the facility. The transition from fossil fuel-powered ground support equipment to electric alternatives is a significant element of Port Authority's broader decarbonization strategy. Such equipment accounts for approximately 4 percent of emissions attributable to the agency's operational partners.

The project supports Port Authority's net-zero greenhouse gas emissions target for 2050. The agency is implementing a wider program of emission reduction measures including increased electric vehicle adoption, building decarbonization, solar expansion, and clean construction strategies. Preliminary data indicates the agency has met its interim target of a 35% reduction in direct greenhouse gas emissions by 2025. Longer-term goals include a 50% reduction by 2030 and full net-zero by 2050.

Port Authority Executive Director Kathryn Garcia described the electric ground support equipment transition as one of dozens of identified strategies for reducing emissions across the agency's facilities. LGP CEO Suzette Noble framed the project as a continuation of the sustainability priorities embedded throughout Terminal B's redevelopment, addressing the operational needs of airline partners while advancing the terminal's environmental commitments. Conrac Solutions CEO Joshua Blum described the project as a significant expansion of the company's infrastructure capabilities beyond car rental facilities into specialized airport and airline operations.
