Swire Shipping has revised its Emergency Bunker Surcharge (EBS), citing continued volatility in global fuel markets. The updated charge will apply to shipments with a bill of lading dated on or after May 12, 2026.
For cargo moving from Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and the US West Coast to Papua New Guinea, the South Pacific islands, Timor-Leste, New Zealand and northern Australian ports, the surcharge is set at USD 315 for 20-foot containers and USD 630 for 40-foot containers. Reefer rates are higher.
In the opposite direction, rates are lower at USD 157.50 per 20-foot container and USD 315 per 40-foot unit. Reefer charges are USD 189 and USD 378, with breakbulk set at USD 7.88 per revenue tonne.
Similar surcharge levels will apply across regional trades between Australia, New Zealand and South Pacific destinations, as well as intra-Pacific routes. Swire noted that the EBS will be applied in addition to the existing Bunker Adjustment Factor (BAF) for the first quarter of 2026, and advised customers to contact local representatives for further details.
