Berg Propulsion has secured a contract with Akdeniz Shipyard to supply a full propulsion package for an 8,000-DWT diesel-electric chemical tanker being built for Transka Tankers. The vessel is scheduled for delivery in February 2027. The deal underlines the rising role of Türkiye's shipbuilding sector in specialised parcel chemical tankers and technically intensive tonnage.

The RINA-classed vessel was designed by Norden Design House Türkiye. Berg's scope includes the complete main propulsion system, a twin-in/single-out gearbox, dual permanent magnet machines, an integrated control system and a bow thruster with an electric motor. The package places propulsion configuration at the core of the vessel's efficiency profile, with a fully integrated electric architecture aligned to performance requirements in the chemical tanker segment.

Berg Propulsion is a marine engineering company specialising in propulsion, manoeuvring and control systems for commercial vessels, delivering integrated technical solutions tailored to ship-specific operational profiles. Akdeniz Shipyard is a Türkiye-based shipbuilder engaged in the construction of commercial vessels including tankers and specialised tonnage.

The contract reads as continued momentum for Turkish yards in the global chemical tanker orderbook. Norden Design House's Istanbul presence underscores Türkiye's positioning not only as a builder but also as an engineering and ship-design hub.
