M/MARITIME has moved into the feeder container segment by signing contracts for two 2,800 TEU newbuildings with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), according to the company statement. The vessels will be built in South Korea and are scheduled for delivery from early 2028.

The ships will be constructed to the yard's CON-GREEN design and meet IMO Tier III standards. The design incorporates energy-efficiency systems and high reefer capacity aimed at supporting operational flexibility and utilization.

In parallel, M/MARITIME is tightening its dry bulk exposure through three long-term time charters. The fleet strategy is reweighting between containers and dry bulk.

The feeder segment matters because mainliner services have moved toward larger vessels, leaving regional feeder lanes as a critical link. Demand in the 2,500-3,000 TEU band on Europe-Mediterranean and intra-Asia trades is set to keep growing through 2030.

HHI — the world's largest shipbuilder — remains a frequent pick for Greek and European owners thanks to sustained Tier III-compliant production capacity. The order confirms that Asian yards continue to win feeder and mid-size containership contracts from European clients.
