The challenges include rising import costs, concerns over reliance on a handful of source countries, safety stock levels, determining where to expand and contract globally, managing escalating costs, workforce concerns, and regulatory changes. Executives must develop resilience strategies to successfully navigate disruptions. From a supply chain perspective, under the Trump 2.0 regime, the elimination of the de minimis threshold (under $800) for packages originating from China and Hong Kong, UFLPA compliance, FCPA (Foreign Corrupt Practices Act) relaxation, Mexico/Canada USMCA scrutiny, EU CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism) interaction, divergence from WTO mechanisms, are shaping the daily agendas of supply chain managers. Tariff engineering, FTZ (Foreign Trade Zone), bonded warehouse, duty drawback, FTA (Free Trade Agreement) optimization, proper HTSUS classification, first sale doctrine, are tools of modern landed cost optimization. On the sustainability side, Scope 1/2/3 emissions, CDP, SBTi, EU CSRD, and SEC Climate Rule (legally contested) are reporting frameworks. In conclusion, Cook's insight clearly demonstrates that supply chain leadership in the Trump era requires the dual combination of operational discipline and cultural readiness.
