Rheinmetall has launched series production of the Kraken K3 Scout unmanned surface vessels (USV) at the Blohm+Voss site in Hamburg. According to the company, the programme has moved into industrial output as demand builds for deployable unmanned maritime systems. The platform is being jointly developed by Rheinmetall's Naval Systems division and UK-based Kraken Technology Group.

Kraken K3 Scout is designed for military and civilian use and is offered in various configurations for maritime surveillance, protection of critical infrastructure, and weapon-carrying missions. The joint venture established by the two companies will unify design, production, and customer support processes to make integrated deliveries to EU and NATO customers.

Unmanned surface vessels have become a strategic tool in conflict zones such as the Ukraine war and the Red Sea crisis in recent years. Autonomous navigation, sensor fusion, and remote control capabilities have reduced the liquid fuel consumption and operating costs of these platforms. With this investment, Rheinmetall has taken a major step toward establishing a leading position in the USV market within the European defence industry.
