Krasnoe Sormovo Shipyard has launched a new dry cargo ship under the RSD59 Project. According to United Shipbuilding Corporation, the RSD59 Project is a Volgo-Don max class vessel designed for transporting general and dry bulk cargo, packaged sawn goods, logs, metal scrap, rolled metal products, high and heavy cargo, coal, hazardous materials, and category B cargo.

The RSD59 Project has two cargo holds and can operate both at sea and in rivers. This flexibility provides the capability to combine Russia's vast river systems (Volga, Don, Ob) with Black Sea, Caspian, and Baltic Sea connections. Vessel particulars include LOA 140.88 m, beam 16.98 m, height 6 m, deadweight at sea/river 5,128/7,535 tons, cargo hold capacity 11,292 cu m, and river/sea draft 3.6/4.53 m.

The RSD59 class plays a critical role in modernising Russia's inland waterway fleet. United Shipbuilding Corporation emphasised that the project is a strategic investment supporting Russia's multi-modal transport network and its grain, fertiliser, and metal exports. Under sanctions, Russian shipyards are observed to be offsetting overseas-order losses with domestic market orders.
