United Parcel Service (UPS) is expanding its RFID sensor infrastructure across all U.S. hubs, eliminating approximately 20 million manual barcode scans per day. The company has so far invested about $100 million in smart label technology.

The sensors track parcel movement inside the hub in real time, reducing missort rates and providing faster status updates to both shipper and recipient. Ingram Micro is among the large-scale customers piloting the system across its shipping flow.

UPS rival FedEx has also begun testing RFID on select customers' packages. Industry analysts assess that smart labels will become the standard for end-to-end visibility in parcel transportation in the coming years.

Key Takeaways:
1. UPS is rolling out the RFID sensor network across all U.S. hubs.
2. Total investment stands at roughly $100 million.
3. Twenty million manual scans per day are being eliminated.
4. Ingram Micro is among the first large-scale customers to use the system.
5. FedEx is running RFID trials in parallel.
