Gartner Report Reveals Procurement Leaders' Talent Survey Results
According to a survey conducted by consulting firm Gartner, Inc. in June 2023, only 14% of Procurement Leaders express confidence that their organization has the talent to meet the function's future needs. A significant gap emerged between assessments of current and future talent requirements among the 111 Procurement Leaders surveyed.

While 46% of respondents feel confident about current talent needs, only 14% believe they have sufficient talent to meet future requirements.
\n The number expressing confidence in current capabilities was three times higher than those confident about future requirements.

Fareen Mehrzai, senior principal analyst in Gartner's Supply Chain Practice, noted that Procurement Leaders are generally confident about their current capabilities and ability to reach near-term goals, but are concerned about having sufficient talent for transformational objectives ahead, particularly in technology and providing strategic business consulting.
\nThe lack of confidence in future talent readiness stems from a shift in core competencies needed to support objectives associated with supply chain transformation. The survey found:

69% of respondents noted that business acumen has become more important in the last 12 months.
\n 68% cited increased importance of technology and data skills.
\n Only 26% reported that "traditional procurement competencies" have become more important during the same period.

These findings demonstrate significant gaps between current and future talent needs for the most critical capabilities. While 96% of respondents reported at least some gap in technology and data skills, 86% reported the same situation regarding business acumen.
