Worker health takes a back seat at Amazon facilities, according to University of Illinois study

A study conducted by the Center for Urban Economic Development at the University of Illinois Chicago found that more than two-thirds of Amazon's warehouse workers in the United States have taken unpaid time off to recover from pain or fatigue experienced on the job.

Based on surveys of 1,484 warehouse workers at 451 facilities across 42 states, the study found that 69% of workers had taken unpaid leave to recover, and that 34% of those had done so three or more times.

The findings suggest that workplace injuries and pain at Amazon are more widespread than previously known. Amazon's demanding work pace is believed to be a contributing factor to these issues.
