Walmart Opens 1.5M m² Next-Generation Distribution Center in Pennsylvania

Walmart opened a new "next-generation" distribution center spanning 1.5 million square meters in Pennsylvania. The facility is designed to support increased order capacity and faster shipping speeds for both its own products and third-party logistics services. This is Walmart's fourth next-generation distribution center, with a fifth facility scheduled to open in California in 2026.

Walmart did not provide details about the high-tech facility but noted generally that next-generation sites combine people, robots, and machine learning to achieve twice the storage capacity of standard distribution centers and fulfill twice the daily customer orders.

Located in Greencastle, Pennsylvania, the facility will help Walmart expand its next-day or two-day delivery service. The Bentonville, Arkansas-based company will also use the new space to support Walmart Fulfillment Services, its third-party logistics offering that provides products from its marketplace e-commerce platform.
