U.S. Sets World Record with 10 Million Tonnes Monthly LNG Exports
U.S. Sets World Record with 10 Million Tonnes Monthly LNG Exports
The U.S. exported 10.1 million metric tonnes (mmt) of LNG in October 2025, becoming the first country in world history to achieve this level of LNG exports in a single month. According to preliminary data shared by financial institution LSEG, this volume surpassed the previous month's revised shipment of 9.1 mmt, setting a new record. This momentum represents the continuation of four consecutive record-breaking months for the U.S. in 2025.
The U.S. was already the world's largest LNG exporter; however, 2025 has further strengthened America's position in the global market, particularly with the commissioning of two major facilities. The key drivers behind this surge include the ramp-up of Venture Global's Plaquemines LNG facility and Cheniere Energy's Corpus Christi Stage 3 expansion project.
Facility-Based Performance: Plaquemines and Corpus Christi Lead the Way
The Plaquemines LNG facility in Louisiana achieved 2.2 mmt in sales in October, surpassing its September level of 1.6 mmt and setting its own record. This facility stands out as the fastest-growing contributor to U.S. export growth.
Cheniere's Corpus Christi facility similarly achieved its highest monthly exports on record with 1.6 mmt. The company's other major facility, Sabine Pass, exported 2.6 mmt of LNG in October. Combined, Cheniere's two facilities accounted for 4.2 mmt, representing 42% of U.S. LNG exports.
Cheniere CEO Jack Fusco stated during a recent investor call that once Corpus Christi Stage 3 is completed, the company will reach annual LNG export capacity of over 50 mmt and will benefit from greater supply strength from 2026 onward.
Combined, Venture Global and Cheniere accounted for 72% of the U.S. LNG exports in October.
Primary Markets: Europe Leads
In October 2025, Europe remained the most important destination for U.S. LNG.
6.9 mmt of LNG went to Europe (representing 69% of total exports).
This volume exceeded the 6.22 mmt shipped in September.
European countries continued to rapidly fill storage in preparation for the approaching winter season.
LNG sent to Asia increased from the September level of 1.63 mmt to 1.96 mmt.
Exports to Latin America declined from 0.63 mmt to 0.57 mmt due to the onset of the summer season.
Regional distribution also included:
Egypt: 0.43 mmt (September: 0.5 mmt)
Senegal: 0.1 mmt
Spot cargoes seeking buyers: 0.1 mmt
Prices and Market Dynamics
In October, Europe's TTF price stood at $10.88/MMBtu, while Asia's JKM price reached $11.11/MMBtu.
With the price differential being extremely narrow, there was no strong incentive for U.S. exporters to redirect volumes away from Europe toward Asia. This preserved Europe's dominant share of U.S. LNG shipments.
This record month signals that the U.S. is becoming an increasingly critical player in global LNG supply security, and that supply stability will strengthen further from 2026 onward.
Key Takeaways:
The U.S. became the first country to export 10.1 mmt of LNG in a single month.
Primary growth drivers: Plaquemines LNG and Corpus Christi Stage 3 ramp-up process.
Cheniere alone accounted for 42% of U.S. exports.
Europe retained its position as the largest customer, purchasing 69% of U.S. LNG.
Tight TTF-JKM price spreads → Limited redirection to Asia.
