Tesla announced it will suspend most vehicle manufacturing operations at its factory near Berlin from January 29 to February 11. The suspension is linked to supply chain disruptions caused by shipping companies rerouting vessels due to attacks by Houthi militants in the Red Sea. According to Reuters, Tesla is among the first companies globally to experience production interruptions due to Houthi militant attacks.

According to Tesla's statement, armed conflicts in the Red Sea and the rerouting of transport routes between Europe and Asia via the Cape of Good Hope are affecting production at Gruenheide. In particular, extended transit times are creating gaps in supply chains.

The company added that production at the facility will fully resume on February 12. However, Tesla did not specify which components the factory is lacking or how it will restart production by February 12.

Tesla shares fell 1.7 percent on the Frankfurt exchange on January 12.

Tesla's announcement came shortly after the United States and the United Kingdom stated they had conducted "successful strikes" against Houthi targets in Yemen. On January 11, the U.S. Air Force launched attacks against more than 60 targets at 16 Houthi militant positions in Sanaa, Yemen's capital.
