Schneider National Launches Fast Track Premium Rail Service
Schneider National Launches Fast Track Premium Rail Service
Schneider National has announced Fast Track, a new premium rail service, as demand for speed and reliability in intermodal transportation continues to surge. The company says Fast Track delivers an experience approaching truck-speed while preserving the advantages of intermodal structure.
According to the company's announcement, Fast Track combines Schneider's owned truck transportation capacity, intermodal expertise, and strategic rail partnerships on a single platform, providing some of the fastest and most reliable intermodal lanes in the industry.
Michael Baumgardt, Schneider Intermodal SVP, noted that the service was designed specifically for customers where delays on critical shipments are unacceptable:
"We designed this specifically for shippers who need a solution that delivers speed, control, and reliability on every mile."
Up to Two Days Faster Transit Times on US-Mexico Lanes
Schneider reports that on intermodal lanes running specifically between the US and Mexico, Fast Track provides delivery one to two days faster than competitors, and in some cases up to three days faster.
This performance aligns with Schneider's plan to expand strategically important Mexico intermodal operations. The company had set a target in 2021 to double Mexico intermodal transportation by 2030.
In pursuit of this goal, significant growth has been seen in volumes originating from Mexico:
Q3 intermodal revenue of $281.4 million, up 6%,
Intermodal volumes increased 10%,
Mexico-origin lanes continue to be preferred by customers due to significant speed advantages.
CEO Mark Rourke noted that Mexico-to-US shipments are 1–3 days faster than competitors, and this advantage is driving improved customer satisfaction.
95% On-Time Delivery and Priority Access
Fast Track commits to 95% on-time delivery.
The key elements supporting this include:
Priority rail placement: Dedicated slots on trains,
Priority planning,
Optimized drayage processes,
Expedited recovery capability (rapid resolution in case of damage or delay risks).
This structure reduces risks particularly for customers shipping time-sensitive freight. According to Schneider, on shipments from Mexico to Kansas City, Chicago, and other Midwest centers, this structure already delivers "proven performance."
Security: Nearly 100% Theft-Free Operations in 2024
Schneider reports achieving nearly 100% theft-free security performance in its US and Mexico operations in 2024.
This creates a strong value proposition for Fast Track, particularly for manufacturers with high security expectations on Mexico-origin shipments.
24/7 Tracking and Nationwide Flexibility
Service features include:
24/7 real-time tracking,
Flexible national network,
Continuous monitoring for sensitive loads,
Hybrid structure combining intermodal and truckload advantages.
Fast Track is said to address growing just-in-time and expedited demand trends in the industry. Schneider plans to expand its service network, though details on new lanes have not yet been disclosed.
