Maersk Returns to Suez Canal Route: Red Sea Back in Focus
Sedat Onat
Maersk has announced plans to reroute multiple container vessels through the Suez Canal and Red Sea in the near term, following a period of course changes prompted by Houthi attacks on ships in the Red Sea.
\nThe move signals a return to the region by major global shipping firms such as Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd. Maersk's share price declined, as the shorter nature of these routes could pressure shipping rates downward.
\nShares of other shipping companies also fell in value. As U.S.-led military operations plan to provide protection to vessels, Maersk and other firms continue to assess security conditions and adjust their routes accordingly.
