Kyrgyzstan, following the commencement of construction on the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan (CKU) Railway project, is planning new railway projects to further expand its regional transport network. These projects aim to strengthen the country's geopolitical position and diversify trade routes across Central Asia.

China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway Project:

On December 27, 2024, the foundation stone for the CKU Railway project was laid in the village of Toş-Kutçu in Kyrgyzstan's Jalal-Abad region. The ceremony was attended by Kyrgyzstan's President Sadır Japarov, China's National Development and Reform Commission Chairman Zheng Shanjie, and Uzbekistan's Deputy Prime Minister Jamshed Khodjaev.

The project will offer new opportunities for trade routes extending from China's Xinjiang region through Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan to Europe. This 454-kilometer railway line will connect the railway networks of the three countries and play a significant role in Central Asia's transport infrastructure.

Alongside the CKU Railway project, Kyrgyzstan has also added new railway projects to its agenda, such as the Batken-Kokand line. This new route aims to connect Kyrgyzstan's Batken region to the city of Kokand in Uzbekistan, further strengthening the region's trade and transport network.
