New Crisis in Global Supply Chain Following Gaza Conflict

The Gaza conflict has severely disrupted global supply chains, with reduced container and vessel availability driving freight rates to record highs. The crisis began with Houthi attacks on Israel-linked ships, intensifying as shippers rerouted away from the Suez Canal toward the Cape of Good Hope. The longer routes have created acute capacity constraints in container and vessel availability, while major transshipment hubs have experienced significant congestion.

MSC Turkey's General Manager noted that these new routing arrangements have extended transit times and created vessel and equipment shortages. The Port of Singapore has seen increased congestion and longer waiting times as incoming vessel arrivals have surged. Container freight rate increases are not expected to reach pre-pandemic levels in the near term.

Meanwhile, Alonso Logistics' Country Director advised Turkish business leaders to make swift decisions and evaluate alternative options.
