Shipping Traffic Congestion in the South China Sea

The waters off Guangzhou are located immediately south of the Pearl River Delta and are known to be one of Asia's busiest shipping routes.

The region sits at the center of high-volume container shipping between China, Hong Kong, Singapore, and the Philippines.

Recent years have seen an increase in similar collision incidents in the region, attributed to heavy regional maritime traffic and poor weather conditions.

  • The Singapore-registered Wan Hai A17 crew sustained no injuries.
