Norwegian LNG carrier owner Awilco LNG is pursuing a rebranding following the departure of long-serving CEO Jon Skule Storheill. The Oslo-listed LNG shipping company announced that Storheill and the board had agreed the company should enter its next phase under new leadership, ending a tenure dating back to Awilco LNG's stock market listing in 2011.

The changes extend beyond a new CEO. The company is also planning a broader management shake-up and a proposed boardroom reshuffle to be presented to shareholders at the next annual general meeting. Awilco LNG has now decided to go a step further by proposing a name change to ALNG.

Shareholders will vote at the annual general meeting on June 3 on whether to change the company's name from Awilco LNG to ALNG. The rebranding, paired with management changes, signals a major shift for the LNG owner in the global gas shipping sector.

The company currently owns two 2013-built 156,000 cu m TFDE membrane LNG carriers, WilForce and WilPride. These vessels form the core of Awilco LNG's existing fleet. The decision to rebrand and restructure management is viewed as part of a search for a new strategic direction in the competitive LNG transportation market.

The outcome of the general meeting will shape the company's operational and corporate identity for the coming period. The Norwegian LNG carrier owner's move is being watched as an indicator of repositioning strategy within the sector.
