Samsung Heavy taps TMC Compressors for marine air systems on four 174,000-cbm LNG carriers for TMS Cardiff Gas
Samsung Heavy Industries has selected Norway-headquartered TMC Compressors to supply marine compressed-air systems for four 174,000-cubic-metre LNG carriers the South Korean yard is building for Greece-based shipowner TMS Cardiff Gas, according to TMC. The scope covers instrument and service air compressors for each vessel.
TMC said the package will consist of single-stage, oil-lubricated marine screw compressors designed for continuous operation in high ambient temperatures. The contract value was not disclosed.
The order adds another LNG-carrier reference to TMC's book with Samsung Heavy Industries and TMS Cardiff Gas. Hans-Petter Tanum, TMC's director of sales and business development, said the company has historically delivered similar systems to both clients and has become a favoured supplier in the LNG segment because the systems are designed to keep operating expenditure to a minimum.
Each of the four vessels will have a storage capacity of 174,000 cubic metres, with delivery expected in late 2028. TMC Compressors is a Norway-headquartered supplier of compressed-air systems for marine and offshore use, with offices in Singapore, Korea and China. Samsung Heavy Industries is a South Korean shipbuilder, and TMS Cardiff Gas, formed in Greece in 2011, currently manages an LNG fleet of 16 vessels.
The contract reinforces the position of South Korean yards in the LNG carrier market at a time when long-term LNG offtake contracts are accelerating fleet renewal. Newbuild orders by Greek owners continue to provide a steady pipeline for marine equipment suppliers.
