Gebrüder Weiss has opened a new Logistics and IT Center in Wolfurt, in Austria's Vorarlberg state, in what the company described as one of the largest single-site investments in its history. The €100 million facility was inaugurated on April 24 with business and government representatives in attendance.

The site aims to lift supply chain efficiency through automation, digitalisation and integrated operations. Spanning roughly 31,000 square metres, the vertically integrated design combines logistics, IT and office functions under one roof, with workspace for around 400 employees.

At the core of the complex is a 34-metre-high automated warehouse with capacity for 68,000 pallets. The system can store up to 160 pallets and retrieve up to 200 pallets per hour, using autonomous vehicles, digital control systems and advanced intralogistics technology. A manual warehouse and the group's central IT unit are housed in the same building.

Direct access to the Wolfurt cargo terminal links the facility to road and rail networks, while proximity to the Swiss, German and Liechtenstein borders positions it as a regional logistics hub. CEO Wolfram Senger-Weiss said the project marks a major step forward and creates infrastructure designed for long-term growth and more transparent supply chains.

Vorarlberg Governor Markus Wallner said the investment strengthens the region as a business location, adding that efficient logistics are essential for competitiveness in global markets. The Wolfurt center stands out in Europe as a single-site integration of road, rail and IT functions in a logistics operator footprint.
