Italian logistics operator Contship Italia closed 2025 with growth across most categories. The annual report from majority shareholder EUROKAI highlighted a 3.5% increase in TEUs handled, for a total of just over 1.71 million units, compared with 2024.

The growth showed up both at container terminal operations and across the group's inland intermodal rail services. Contship's Mediterranean ports drew transhipment volumes from Algeria, Spain, and Northern European hubs, reflecting Italy's weight in European-Mediterranean cargo distribution.

On the operations side, block train services from Rail Hub Milano and the group's inland Italian terminals into northern Europe held at high levels. The EUROKAI report stressed the contribution of intermodal rail to steady volume growth.

The result shows Contship securing a stable volume layer through its Italian gateway-port model and combined transport network, even as global container freight rates remain volatile. EU carbon-emission targets and modal-shift policies favouring rail are expected to provide longer-term tailwinds.

Key Takeaways:
1. Contship Italia handled 1.71 million TEUs in 2025, a 3.5% increase from 2024.
2. EUROKAI's annual report confirms broad-based growth across the group.
3. Both container terminals and intermodal rail services contributed to the gains.
4. Mediterranean ports captured transhipment from Algeria, Spain, and Northern Europe.
5. EU carbon targets and modal-shift policies provide a longer-term tailwind for the segment.
