A worker died after a heavy metal piece fell on him during scrapping at the ship recycling yards in Izmir's Aliaga district. The incident occurred at midday at the Sok Denizcilik site operating within the Aliaga Ship Recycling Facilities.

According to information gathered, Galip Avci (65), who came from Bergama and worked at the facility as a site cutter, was struck by a heavy metal piece during scrapping. Emergency medical and police teams were dispatched to the area following notification.

Medical teams confirmed the worker had lost his life on site. Following a prosecutor's review, Avci's body was taken to the Izmir Forensic Medicine Institute morgue for autopsy. An investigation has been opened.
