RailFreight.com's sister publications RailTech.com and Railway Gazette International merged on Monday, 20 April to continue as a single website. The merger of the publications was presented as part of a strategy to cover the global railway sector with a stronger editorial team. Railway Gazette International Editor-in-Chief Nick Kingsley said: "More than ever, the global railway sector needs reliable, authoritative, and independent reporting."
After the merger, the Railway Gazette website switched to a new design. Visitors to RailTech.com will now be redirected to railwaygazette.com. RailTech's archive containing all articles written over the past ten years has also moved to Railway Gazette. Current RailTech subscribers will receive an equivalent Railway Gazette subscription free of charge and their expiry dates will be preserved.
The merger was seen as a response to financial pressures facing the publishing sector. A larger editorial team will cover infrastructure developments, technology innovations, policy changes, and climate transition projects in greater depth. Railway Gazette is known as a publication that has witnessed the history of the railway sector since 1835, and with this merger has strengthened its position in the digital age.
