MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has confirmed a transfer of ownership completed during the final quarter of 2025. MSC Group Chairman and founder Captain Gianluigi Aponte transferred ownership to his children Diego Aponte (Group President) and Alexa Aponte (Group Chief Financial Officer). Both names had served in senior leadership roles within the Geneva-based group for many years.

Italian nationals raised in Switzerland and currently based there, Diego and Alexa Aponte have taken on ownership responsibility to secure the group's long-term stability and sustained growth. According to MSC management, the move ensures the company's strategic direction will be maintained under the stewardship of the next generation of the Aponte family.

Founder Captain Gianluigi Aponte said: "Passing ownership to my children is not only a reflection of their dedication and achievements, but also a continuation of our maritime legacy." MSC is one of the world's largest container carriers and overtook Maersk in the 2020s to claim leadership of the container market. The next generation of Apontes is expected to expand the group's port terminal investments, energy transition, and digitalisation strategies more aggressively.
